What does travelling mean to me

Back in November my husband and I decided to take some time off and travel through India.  Unfortunately he was never granted a visa to the country (through no fault of his) and so, just two weeks before we wanted to leave, we had to rethink our plans and decided to visit Sri Lanka and Malaysia instead.

It has been a month now since we started our travels.  After a brief stop in Abu Dhabi and two weeks in Sri Lanka, we are now in Malaysia where we are experiencing a heat wave.  Even the locals are complaining!  During the day is it 40C with 50-60% humidity which we are not used to. This means that I get up about 6am to practice my yoga routine, followed by a swim in the hotel pool and then we are off to explore the surrounding sites. We have to be back by 11.30am otherwise we get sun burnt or exhausted from the heat.  By 5pm it starts to cool down by a couple of degrees which helps as it allows us to get out and about again.

So far I have experienced some very busy cities like Colombo and Kandy in Sri Lanka and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, but also some relaxing and easy going places such as the pretty coastline of Kalpitya in Sri Lanka and the interesting Kuching UNESCO town of Sarawak (Borneo).

Currently we are taking a break from the relentless travelling and staying on Langkawi Island, North-West of mainland Malaysia. Here we have found a little gem of accommodation, away from the bustling beach of Pantai Cenang.  This break is allowing us to take stock of what we have experienced so far but also think about our future projects once back home. I have always found that taking a break / holiday helps me to re-focus on my work and it gives me the time to “look outside the box”.

It is with this thought that I am going to leave you wondering what skills I will be adding once back to UK!!

P.S. Although I am not working whilst away, it seems that the local cats have taken advantage of the opportunity to get a free treatment!
